Vehicle safety.

Postby mayhemike » Wed Dec 18, 2013 11:08 pm

Was wondering if anyone could help a fellow jeep owner out.
I purchased a van 1997 Pontiac transport, excellent condition, except for rusted rockers. I am planning on repairing them when spring/summer arrive. I really need a safety for it until then. The van is a Xmas gift to my mother.

Are you asking for a safety, or help fixing the rockers for now to get a safety?

I'm asking kindly for a safety, just until spring/summer. I'll be doing the repairs on it.

Are rockers all it will need? Has it gone in for a safety and failed due to the rockers?

If they aren't too bad they can be filled and covered quite easily as a band-aid until you can do them properly.

I don't think any registered technician is going to post on a open forum on the Internet that he will do a greasy safety. Best put a phone number up so they can contact you direct

U can't notice until u actually take a good look at them. Haven't brought it in and tried to get a safety yet. Everything is in great working condition, I'm assuming the rockers will be the one thing that won't pass.

Buying a safety for a car you are going to give to your mom doesn't sound like the best idea. Sure it might look fine, but what if she gets into an accident because of something that would have been caught in a proper safety...

If rockers truly is the only thing that would be an issue they are easy enough to patch up, and spray some rocker guard over to pass a safety.

Luckily the days of the 200$ safety are mostly gone. Keeps a lot of bad cars off the street

Yup rotted rockers and the cost to have someone else repair them properly is what keeps many from selling their older vehicles.

If they aren't too bad you could fill the hole with spray foam, trim any excess foam flush with rocker then spray rockers with rocker guard.

Jay the problem with that is when the mechanic checks the rockers and a magnet doesn't stick to the "metal" he will become suspicious and dig deeper into it. Finding the spray foam repair.

Didn't realize they do the rockers with a magnet. I've passed a couple cars this way, guess it depends on who you go to.
